Behavior Modification
Our behavior modification programs are for dogs who have issues outside the bounds of obedience training. We take dogs who resource guard, are highly reactive to humans or other dogs, and dogs who have bitten another dog or person.
This program covers all obedience taught in our on-leash program. It also covers in-depth management, muzzle conditioning, body handling, and systematic desensitization of known triggers included as well.
Aggression issues vary case by case. For this reason we like to work systematically through each case to meet your dog where they’re at. We’ll push their threshold of tolerance closer and closer to triggers while changing their emotional state to be more positive about those triggers.
Quick programs that focus on suppressing outbursts can look impressive in the beginning. If you don’t change how your dog feels when they see other people and dogs, then there will be behavioral fallout later. We usually start all modification programs out at 8 lessons spaced out over several months. Aggression issues cannot be “quick fixed”, some training programs offer cures within weeks. We strongly urge you to be wary of these claims. Behavior modification is effective when implemented over months, not weeks.
Our behavior modification program focuses on building up your confidence in handling your dog and on your dog’s emotional responses that are causing aggressive behaviors.
If training is not within your budget right now, we highly recommend you implement strong management strategies outlined here.
